our fourth branch of government

Follow this link to view a fantastic The Daily Show clip comparing the media's treatment of that wicked Oprah-liar Frey and its fawning over our government officials. It's great commentary.

The Founders expanded the freedom of speech that they had known as Englishmen (see the English Bill of Rights, 1689) to include the press because of its usefulness in informing the public about government actions the government would not want to talk about. In this role it should act as a sort of fourth branch of government to check the powere of the other three. In the good newspapers (not the local fish-wraps) and on the internet there are some good watchdogs, but the television press is so passive and fawning and untrustworthy.

Mmmmm, the taste of infotainment indigestion tells me it's time to do something else....
